Brentford booked their second consecutive win in the Premier League on Saturday afternoon. In the duel with Wout Weghorst’s Burnley, the teams seemed to be heading for a draw for a long time, until a goal by Ivan Toney decided otherwise in the final phase. In the end, the victory even went to 2-0. Christian Eriksen delivered a very nice assist on the winning goal with his weaker left leg. Weghorst started at Burnley as one of the two strikers in Sean Dyche’s 4-4-2 system, but was unable to make his mark.

After the rare win at Norwich City last week (1-3), Brentford came on with exactly the same 11 names, meaning Christian Eriksen also appeared at the starting signal. Made under the direction of the Dane the Bees a strong opening phase, and with fifteen minutes on the clock Nick Pope needed a nice reflex to keep Eriksen from scoring.
Burnley then started pulling more and more towards the home team’s goal, but was unable to convert that into a shot between the posts. The Cornets were allowed to thank James Tarkowski for the 0-0 halftime score, as the defender managed to remove a dangerous bet from Bryan Mbeumo just before the tea.

The game continued in the same manner after the break. At home, Vitaly Janelt became dangerous twice: first his header sailed just over the crossbar, then his deflected shot resulted in no more than a corner. Unfortunately for Weghorst, things started to improve for his team after his exit. Forward partner Maxwel Cornet forced David Raya to intervene with a shot from close range, while Weghorst’s replacement Jay Rodriguez chased the ball from the second line onto the crossbar.

Still, it was Brentford that took the win. Five minutes before the end, Eriksen hurled the ball with his weaker left leg towards the penalty spot, where Toney was ready to head in the 1-0. It marked the fourth goal in two games for the striker, who already produced a hat-trick against Norwich City. In extremis, things got even worse for Burnley. Again Eriksen found Toney, who was knocked over by Nathan Collins. The defender was shown red and Toney a penalty, which he shot in flawlessly. Despite the win, Brentford remains in 15th place in the Premier League; Burnley is still in a feared eighteenth place below the relegation zone.
