Bayern Munich lost points in the Bundesliga for the second time in a row on Saturday. In a crazy duel with TSG Hoffenheim, both teams had numerous opportunities to claim the victory, but after ninety minutes the score was 1-1. On the Bavarian side, no fewer than three goals were disallowed for offside. The draw gives Bayern pursuer Borussia Dortmund, which has played two games less, the chance to close the gap with the leader to four.

TSG Hoffenheim – Bayern Munich 1-1

Bayern came up with the same eleven as in the midweek huge win against Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League (7-1), which meant that Jamal Musiala played his 50th Bundesliga game. The nineteen-year-old midfielder became the youngest player of all time to do so. However, as good as against the Austrians, Julian Nagelsmann’s eleven did not start. After six minutes, Hoffenheim countered very quickly after Leroy Sané lost the ball, after which Andrej Kramaric’s effort could only be narrowly reversed by Manuel Neuer. Yet it did not stop Bayern from the leg. With fifteen minutes on the clock, Thomas Müller cleverly extended a pass from Kingsley Coman, but Oliver Baumann saved just as beautifully.

Bayern took control and saw an (albeit beautiful) attack and goal disallowed halfway through the first company for offside. The opening goal came like a bolt from the blue. Kevin Vogt was able to advance freely in midfield and gave up to Kramaric on the left. The Croat put the ball down at the second ball, where Christoph Baumgartner slid in unruly. Hoffenheim saw Bayern immediately chasing the equalizer and was released not much later when Müller scored his second offside goal. Sebastian Hoeness’s team thought it would go into halftime with a lead, until Robert Lewandowski changed that.

The Polish goalkeeper headed in the extra time from a corner kick by Joshua Kimmich: 1-1.
Less than a minute after tea, Lewandowski thought he could also add his second, but for the third time that afternoon the arbiter ruled ‘offside’. Bayern kept looking for the 1-2, but kept finding post, player, keeper and lack of direction. Hoffenheim even tried to steal the victory, but failed.

SC Freiburg – VfL Wolfsburg 3-2
Bundesliga surprise Freiburg needed just seven minutes for the opening goal. Vincenzo Grifo, after a charge from Maximilian Arnold, was allowed to moor for a free kick and shot it from about twenty meters into the top left corner. The same Grifo also doubled the margin just before half-time, by hitting a cross from Nicolas Höfler twice behind Pavao Pervan. Seven minutes after the break, Max Kruse brought the tension back by putting a sharp through ball from Arnold into the far corner. The goal gave Wolfsburg hope, and in the final phase Florian Kohfeldt’s team received a wage to work. Arnold shot hard from a scrimmage, with which he seemed to give Wolfsburg a point. Freiburg, however, still won the full pound: Nico Schlotterbeck shot the decisive 3-2 against the ropes with a beautiful volley.

Union Berlin – VfB Stuttgart 1-1
Union Berlin seemed to take one moment on Saturday afternoon with Sheraldo Becker as basic player to take an important three-pointer in the battle for European football. With 41 minutes on the clock, Grischa Prömel’s shot went into the hand of Konstantinos Mavropanos, after which Robert Hartmann put the ball on the spot. Taiwo Awoniyi sent goalkeeper Florian Müller the wrong way and gave the home team the lead. Union Berlin seemed to cross that margin, but Sasa Kalajdzic gave VfB Stuttgart another point in injury time. the Swabia hand over the penultimate place in the Bundesliga on goal difference to Hertha BSC. Union Berlin remains seventh and sees the sub-top of the German competition walk away.
