The Netherlands has fallen to seventh place in the new FIFA rankings. Portugal takes sixth place from the Dutch team.

Portugal collected more points since the last score in February. For example, they won against Sweden (5-2) and lost against Slovakia (0-1). While the Netherlands, despite the victory over Scotland (4-0) and the loss against Germany (2-1), actually lost points. The Netherlands has been one of the ten best countries in the world for quite some time. The last time the Dutch team was higher was in 2015 (fifth place).

Germany and the United States are the big climbers in the rankings. The latter country recently won the Nations League, while our eastern neighbors have started their climb to the top ten since 2018.

Belgium passes England and is therefore the new number three. Both teams played against each other in the previous international match, but had to settle for a draw. Belgium collected more points by drawing against Ireland (0-0), while England lost 0-1 to Brazil.

The next list will be published on June 20, during the European Championships. When awarding points, all kinds of things are taken into account. Naturally, the result of the match plays a role, but also the strength of the opponent and the importance of the match. A match at the European Championship therefore carries more weight than a practice match.
