Stéphanie Frappart is the referee at the World Cup qualifying match between the Dutch national team and Latvia on Saturday 27 March in the Johan Cruijff ArenA. It is a real first, because an the Dutch game has never been led by a female arbitrator before. The 37-year-old Frappart made her debut in the group stage of the Champions League earlier this season.

Latvia, the second opponent of the Dutch in the qualifying cycle for the Qatar World Cup in 2022, meets Frappart for the second time in a short time. In September last year, UEFA sent her the Nations League match between the Latvian team and Malta (1-1). Three months later, in December, the referee from France made history by becoming the first woman to ever lead a game in the billion dollar game. After Juventus’ home game against Dynamo Kiev (3-0), Frappart was showered with compliments.

Frappart was appointed in August 2019 for the European Super Cup game between Liverpool and Chelsea. A month before, she was the referee at the World Cup final of the Oranje Leeuwinnen against the United States (0-2). In the final battle in Lyon, Frappart indicated another penalty Team USA. Megan Rapinoe broke the spell from eleven meters, after which Rose Lavelle set the final score at 0-2.

Michael Oliver is the referee at the World Cup qualifier between the Dutch national team and Turkey on March 24. The Dutch international period will be closed with a game against Gibraltar on March 30. FIFA has appointed the Portuguese Joao Pedro Silva Pinheiro as referee for that meeting.
