FC Groningen and PEC Zwolle shared the points in the Eredivisie on Friday evening. In an unexciting game, the two teams held each other to a 1-1 draw. Mees de Wit shot PEC ahead with a long shot before half time, after which FC Groningen came alongside in the second half via an own goal by Thomas van den Belt.
After the first point under his leadership against RKC (1-1), Dick Schreuder also hoped for a success when visiting FC Groningen. The team of trainer Danny Buijs, on the other hand, also started the match with confidence after a 1-4 win at Fortuna Sittard. The first shot in the Zwolle-made Euroborg came in the name of Gervane Kastaneer. Groningen did not immediately succeed in creating danger in the opening phase. The first time the home side finally managed to create danger, it also seemed to open the score right away. Cyril Ngonge, however, was offside by a meter or two, as a result of which the Groningen party was cancelled.

On the other hand, it was then hit. De Wit got the ball in midfield and did not hesitate. From about thirty meters, the midfielder managed to surprise goalkeeper Peter Leeuwenburgh with a mop ball: 0-1. FC Groningen disappointed with the game that the team put on the mat. After more than half an hour, the home team managed to put Kostas Lamprou to work for the first time. The PEC goalkeeper, however, reacted alertly to a bet by Jörgen Strand Larsen. FC Groningen almost got the bill paid for the lackluster game. Kastaneer headed the ball hard on goal from a cross by Rico Stieder, but Leeuwenburgh took revenge this time with a strong reflex.
In the second half FC Groningen came into the game a little more by winning the second ball more often. It resulted in a great opportunity for Strand Larsen. Just when the striker wanted to push from a promising position, Siemen Voet managed to prevent the equalizer with a successful tackle. In the end, Buijs’s team needed the help of PEC to come alongside. Fifteen minutes before the end, Van den Belt unluckily headed the ball behind his own goalkeeper: 1-1. Both teams seemed to be satisfied with a draw, but deep into injury time, PEC still got the chance to take the full loot to Zwolle. Voet, however, saw his header land on the crossbar.
