Simon Kjaer will no longer play for AC Milan this season. The 32-year-old defender was injured early in the Serie A match against Genoa (0-3 win) on Wednesday and underwent keyhole surgery on his left knee on Friday. Damage to the cruciate ligament was noted.

Already after four minutes it went wrong for Kjaer against Genoa. The Danish international was carried off the field on a stretcher and underwent keyhole surgery on Friday. The defender is awaiting a six-month rehabilitation. For AC Milan, the long absence of Kjaer is a big damper. The mandekker recently extended his contract with i Rossoneric and is a fixed value in the team of trainer Stefano Pioli. This season the counter stands at eleven Serie A matches and three Champions League matches.

Milan are currently second in Serie A with one point less than leader Napoli. In addition to Kjaer, Piolo is currently unable to rely on Olivier Giroud, Ante Rebic and Davide Calabria due to various injuries. Next Tuesday, AC Milan will play at home against Liverpool for a place in the eighth finals of the Champions League. The Italian team must win if it is to knock FC Porto from second place in Group B.
