Inter started the game with three Dutchmen on the bench. Denzel Dumfries, Stefan de Vrij and Davy Klaassen have no longer had a starting spot under Simone Inzaghi lately and that was no different on Monday evening.

At Milan, an the Dutch international did start in the starting line-up. Tijjani Reijnders was one of the two inspectors of i Rossoneri. Furthermore, Stefano Pioli, who will probably leave Milan after this season, often sent well-known names into the field.

The first chance was for the team that played away on paper in San Siro. However, Lautaro Martínez was unable to direct Matteo Darmian's cross towards the Milan goal. The opening phase was otherwise not very sparkling.

In minute eighteen the spell was broken and it was the Inter fans who could cheer. A corner kick from Federico Dimarco was extended at the near post, after which the fully released Acerbi was able to simply head in: 0-1. From that moment on, Inter seemed to be on their way to the national title.

After half an hour of play, Milan created their first big chance. A cross from Yunus Musah reached Rafael Leão, after which the Portuguese fired on Yann Sommer's goal. The Swiss was able to save the day relatively easily. Before half time, both teams would become dangerous via Thuram (Inter) and Calabria (Milan), but nothing changed at half time.

Early after the tea break, Inter doubled the margin. Thuram outwitted Mike Maignan with a low and hard shot from the edge of the box: 0-2. Inzaghi's men could almost smell the title at this point. Soon after the second goal, Reijnders became the victim of an attacking substitution. The former AZ midfielder was replaced by striker Olivier Giroud.

Only towards the final phase of the match did Milan get more time to play football. In the last fifteen minutes there were opportunities for Pioli's team and that resulted in a tying goal. After the first attempt ended up on the post, Fikayo Tomori scored the rebound: 1-2. A long VAR check followed, but the goal turned out to be valid.

With six minutes to go, Inzaghi brought on Dumfries to help clinch the victory, and thus the scudetto. A little later De Vrij also came into the field. Dumfries would not make it to the end of the game, as he received a red card after a disturbance, during which Hernández also had to leave the field. A few minutes later, Calabria also received the red print.
