Diogo Dalot has extended his contract with Manchester United, the club confirms through official channels. The 24-year-old Portuguese is now four years longer at Old Trafford, until the summer of 2028 to be precise. United have also negotiated the option to extend the contract by one year. Erik ten Hag wanted to keep the right back, who can also play on the left flank if necessary.

Dalot is usually a basic player under the Dutch manager at United this season. The wing defender has played 42 times this campaign so far, 38 of which as a basic player. The Portuguese came, through the intercession of José Mourinho, in the summer of 2018 for 22 million euros from FC Porto. Dalot was loaned to AC Milan in the 2020/21 season to “get used to the pressure at a top club”. Ten Hag seemed to be looking for a new right back last summer, but Dalot managed to fully convince the manager in the preparation.

“We’ve had some great moments together over the last five years,” said the right-back through United’s official channels. “I have grown tremendously and my passion for this fantastic club has only increased since I have been here. We feel as a group of players that we have started something special. I can assure the supporters that I will do everything I can to help this club and make the supporters proud.” Dalot prepares with the Red Devils this week ahead of next Saturday’s FA Cup final against Manchester City. United can take the second prize of the season, after previously winning the EFL Cup.

David De Gea’s contract extension seems to be the next priority for United and Ten Hag. A final agreement is still pending, although the goalkeeper’s contract expires in a month. After that, the English will shift their attention to the possible contract renewals of Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Fred and Victor Lindelöf. Anthony Martial, who will also be out of contract next summer, may leave Ten Hag this transfer window. Marcus Rashford’s contract also expires in mid-2024. United are doing everything they can to keep the club’s kid, who has been involved in 41 goals in 55 games this season.
