The Stade Vélodrome fell completely silent in the sixth minute during the game between Olympique Marseille and Girondins de Bordeaux on Sunday evening. Just as Dimitri Payet was about to take a free kick, Samuel Kalu collapsed into the wall. Fortunately, the 23-year-old striker from Bordeaux was able to get up quickly and played on for a while, but had to be replaced quickly.

Payet was already on his run, but stopped when he saw that Kalu had collapsed into the wall. When his teammates and opponents realized it, there was a bit of panic and there was a wild gesture to get medical help on the field as quickly as possible. The players immediately took care of Kalu and once the medics arrived, they formed a chain around him so that he could be treated in peace.

Kalu regained consciousness, was able to stand up and eventually came back inside the lines for a short time. With fourteen minutes on the clock, apparently due to dizziness, he had to be replaced by Rémi Oudin. The Nigerian striker left the field to loud applause from the Stade Vélodrome after the crowd fell completely silent during the incident. The game ended with goals from Cengiz Ünder, Payet (for Olympique Marseille), Timothée Pembélé and Oudin (for Bordeaux) in a 2-2 draw.
