Jeremiah St. Juste continues his career at Sporting Portugal, according to transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano. The defender of FSV Mainz 05 is being medically examined today and will sign a contract for four seasons if the test results give the green light. With a transfer fee of approximately ten million euros excluding bonuses, he will be one of the largest purchases in the history of the Portuguese top club. The Dutchman ignores interest from Bayern Munich, among others.

The ex-Feyenoord player flew on Monday, together with his brother and agent Yoshua St. Juste, in a private jet to Lisbon to complete the transfer. Trainer of the Portuguese club, Rúben Amorim, had been in contact with the Dutchman for some time and did everything possible to add him to his selection as soon as possible. St. Juste struggled with persistent shoulder problems last season, meaning he only played eight league games for Mainz, and only had a one-year contract with the number nine in the Bundesliga. Bayern also showed interest in recent days, but did not immediately become concrete. The club and trainer Julian Nagelsmann saw a multifunctional defender in St. Juste who excels in the philosophy of of the Rekordmeister suits.

It was no surprise that the Dutchman would make a transfer. Last month reported BILD While Leicester City and West Ham United had expressed an interest, Bayer Leverkusen and Borussia Dortmund were previously mentioned as clubs of interest. Dortmund made a concrete attempt last summer, but a transfer did not materialize. That was striking, because St. Juste and Mainz reportedly had an agreement that the defender could leave with a suitable offer. A year later, the transfer seems to be coming after all. The 25-year-old can look forward to participating in the Champions League. After all, with one round to go, Sporting is certain of second place, which entitles Portugal to a ticket for the group stage of the billion-dollar ball.

Friday it reported General Newspaper already about the imminent transfer of the born Groningen defender. The newspaper mentioned a transfer fee of approximately ten million euros plus two million in potential bonuses. Feyenoord reportedly negotiated a resale percentage in 2019 when St. Juste was sold to Mainz. This only comes into effect when the transfer fee is higher than Mainz’s purchase price, and that seems to be the case; at the time, Voetbal International reported that St. Juste cost about nine million euros. His old club sc Heerenveen can also look forward to a solidarity contribution. The Leeuwarder Courant calculates that it concerns about 300,000 euros with a transfer fee of 9.5 million.
