Almere City and Teun Jacobs will split up after this season, the club from Flevoland announced on Tuesday evening via the official channels. The technical manager failed to keep the first team performing at a consistent level, forcing the club to end the partnership. Almere City is experiencing a dramatic season and is last in the Kitchen Champion Division. “The conclusion has been drawn after various evaluation interviews in recent weeks.”

Jacobs joined the Flevolanders in January 2020. Under his leadership, the Football Academy was professionalized and the club hoped to build a solid foundation for the sporting future. Where last season a good fourth place was achieved, the club is performing far below par this season. At the end of November, Almere decided to put trainer Gertjan Verbeek on the street immediately, after which Alex Pastoor was appointed as his replacement. However, even under Pastoor’s leadership, the upward trend has not started. Only one of the last 12 games has been won. The last win dates back to December 3.

“I was able to determine the technical policy of this club with a lot of energy”, Jacobs said in a reaction. “Great steps have been taken within the club, unfortunately with an ugly aftertaste if you take the current ranking. In any case, I still enjoy driving to Almere every day. However, the club is now entering a different phase, where a different type technical manager is a better fit. In the coming period I will complete my work as well as possible and conclude our cooperation in a positive way.”
