Sevilla booked a last-minute victory over Espanyol on Thursday evening. The team of coach José Luis Mendilibar won 3-2 with a goal from Pape Gueye just before time. Karim Rekik played for the Sevilla side throughout the game and played a negative starring role in the first half, leveling Espanyol with an own goal. Due to the victory, Sevilla climbs to tenth place, while Espanyol remains nineteenth.
Particularities:
After more than twenty minutes, Sevilla took the lead. Gueye’s cross ended up at the feet of Bryan Gil via an Espanyol defender, who was able to score from close range: 1-0. A few minutes later, however, it was level again, when Rekik slid Sergi Darder’s cross behind his own goalkeeper. Due to a beautiful curl from distance from Javi Puado, Espanyol went to rest with a 1-2 lead. Halfway through the second half, the former Ajax player made it 2-2 via a penalty, after a foul had been committed on Gueye. The latter then became the match winner in the 88th minute, by tapping in a low cross at the near post: 3-2.
