Latest update:

Vasilis Barkas is in the interest of Seville, according to reports Mundo Deportivo Thursday. The Spanish team, which is currently fourteenth in LaLiga, assumes that Marko Dmitrovic will leave and is looking for a replacement for the Serbian closing post. The goalkeeper of FC Utrecht was noticed.

Sevilla currently has an excellent first goalkeeper in Ørjan Nyland who will most likely extend his contract. After the departure of Yassine Bounou to the Saudi Pro League, he is preferred by coach Quique Sánchez Flores. However, a successor is needed for Dmitrovic.

One of those potential successors mentioned is 29-year-old Barkas. In addition to FC Utrecht's closing post, Koen Casteels (VfL Wolfsburg), Diego Conde (Leganés) and Seny Dieng (Middlesbrough) are also on the list. One of those names will have to compete with Nyland at Seville.

Barkas is again the first goalkeeper in the Cathedral City this year. Last season he was hired from Celtic, but last summer he signed a permanent contract with FC Utrecht.

Barkas also enjoys a permanent starting position under trainer Ron Jans. At the beginning it seemed reserved for Mattijs Branderhorst, but when the arrival of Barkas was made permanent, the Dutchman had to make way.

Barkas seems to be an excellent option for Sevilla, as the Greek has an expiring contract. Reinforcements also seem necessary for the fallen Spanish superpower. The Andalusians are currently in fourteenth place, just six points ahead of eighteenth-placed Cádiz, which would now be virtually relegated.

Barkas made an excellent impression in Galgenwaard Stadium. He kept four clean sheets in 24 games this season and did Utrecht a great service in the club's resurrection. At the moment, Jans' team, with its current eighth place, has good credentials to reach the play-offs for European football.
