Péter Gulácsi’s season is most likely already over, his club RB Leipzig reports via the official channels. The 32-year-old goalkeeper seriously injured his knee after ten minutes on Wednesday evening and was replaced by ex-Heraclied Janis Blaswich. The German thus seems to be able to prepare for a role as the first keeper.

Gulácsi had to be carried off the field by stretcher in the tenth minute on Wednesday. The Hungarian goalkeeper made a crazy turn during the defense, after which he immediately screamed in pain. It is now clear that Gulácsi has suffered a serious cruciate ligament injury. Leipzig still won the Champions League match, with 3-1 against Celtic.

For Blaswich, his comeback at the age of 31 marked his debut in the Champions League. In the Bundesliga, the closing post already played in the away game against Union Berlin (2-1 defeat) and at home against VfL Wolfsburg (2-0 win). Blaswich was also allowed to make his appearance in the DFB-Pokal: against Teutonia 05, the German was under the bar for 90 minutes during the 0-8 win.

Blaswich came over on a free transfer from Heracles Almelo this summer. With the Almeloërs, the closing item relegated last season to the Kitchen Champion Division. Nevertheless, Blaswich was known at Heracles as a reliable goalkeeper. In total he played 110 official games for the club, in which he kept a clean sheet 27 times. The away game at FSV Mainz 05 is scheduled for Leipzig in the Bundesliga next Saturday, after which an away game at Celtic Park awaits on Tuesday.
