Sadio Mane may still be able to make his appearance during the World Cup. A source within the Senegalese Football Association says the Bayern Munich winger will be part of the selection anyway and that Mane is counted on playing along. L’Equipe recently reported that the star player from Senegal could write participation in the final tournament on his stomach.

Mane was injured on Tuesday evening during Bayern Munich’s 6-1 league match against Werder Bremen. Where Bayern announced through assistant coach Dino Toppmöller that the World Cup would not be in danger for the former Liverpool attacker, it was later announced by L’Equipe announced that Mané would not be there in Qatar. However, the Senegalese federation is still counting on their star player.

A source within the union leaves to the French news agency AFP know that there is no doubt about Mane’s fitness. “One thing is certain: Sadio Mané is in the selection”, it sounds like. The final selection of national coach Aliou Cissé will be announced on Friday and it will then become clear whether the Bayern winger is indeed coming to Qatar. The meeting with the the Dutch squad is scheduled for Monday, November 21.

Mane therefore has 11 days to recover from his injury. If the match against the Dutch national team is not feasible, he may be able to participate in the meetings with Qatar and Ecuador. The Bayern attacker guided his country to its first African Cup win and was decisive in the play-offs against Egypt. Mané’s absence from the World Cup would therefore be a major blow to Senegal.
