Roger Schmidt said goodbye to PSV on Sunday afternoon with a difficult victory over PEC Zwolle. In the last league game of the season, nothing was at stake for either team. Thanks to hits from Bruma and Gervane Kastaneer, PEC and PSV went to the changing rooms with a 1-1 halftime score. Substitute Richard Ledezma finally gave Schmidt’s team the victory: 1-2. Yvon Mvogo was the big star on the Eindhoven side with eleven excellent saves.

The Eindhoven team missed a laundry list of players during the last Eredivisie game of the season. André Ramalho, Ritsu Doan, Olivier Boscagli, Yorbe Vertessen and Marco van Ginkel, among others, were absent due to various injuries. The absence of Eran Zahavi added to that. The Israeli was injured during the final training session after a collision. After an impressive minute of silence in memory of former PEC player Jody Lukoki, the Bluefingers off. The home team made its intentions clear in the opening phase to leave the Eredivisie with their heads held high, because PEC started the game in its own MAC³PARK Stadium with the necessary conviction.

Kastaneer failed to open the score after a long ball from Kenneth Paal. The striker has been struggling to find the net all season and came face to face with goalkeeper Yvon Mvogo at the closing post of PSV early on. On the other hand, the visitors then managed to break the spell with the necessary luck via Bruma, who could easily slide in under Lamprou after a choked shot by Cody Gakpo: 1-0. PEC was eventually rewarded for the good game within fifteen minutes, although this goal was also achieved by luck. Joey Veerman tapped the ball away at Dashawn Redan’s feet, after which Kastaneer convincingly drove the toy against the ropes: 1-1.

Less than a minute later, the striker also thought he would score his third goal of the season, after he headed a measured cross from Paal into the goal. After the intervention of the VAR, however, Kastaneer’s goal was canceled due to offside. PSV insisted more during the first company and thought they would take the lead again ten minutes before half-time, only the second goal by Bruma was also canceled by referee Edwin van de Graaf due to offside. Both teams gave away many chances in the second half. For example, Gakpo immediately asserted himself with a long shot on the post, while Mvogo managed to distinguish himself on the other side with a cat-like reflex on a goal by Redan.

The game went up and down and substitute Ryan Koolwijk, who will hang up his shoes after this season, almost seemed to say goodbye in style. The PEC midfielder saw his shot go to the crossroads, but Mvogo saved again. In the end it was PSV that ended the season with a victory. Substitute Richard Ledezma first killed a huge opportunity, but a few minutes later he had his sights on sharp after a pass from behind by Jordan Teze: 1-2.
