Manchester United has not stipulated a purchase option in Wout Weghorst’s lease. Fabrizio Romano reports this on Friday morning. There was still a lot of uncertainty about whether the Red Devils the Burnley striker could also stay at Old Trafford after this season. Weghorst will most likely return to his actual boss next summer.

On Thursday it was announced that the temporary transfer from Weghorst to United is almost complete. After Manchester United transferred a sum of three million euros to Besiktas to buy out his contract, Weghorst boarded a plane to England to undergo his medical examination. He immediately signed his contract.

All the paperwork is now done and we are waiting for confirmation from the clubs, Romano knows. The transfer market expert adds that United has not included a purchase option in Weghorst’s contract. In principle, the thirty-year-old striker returns to Burnley after this season. That is a big swing, as it seemed weeks ago that he would stay in Turkey after this season. Besiktas had indeed stipulated a purchase option on Weghorst, amounting to eight million euros. Reportedly, the Turkish top club also planned to light it.

Weghorst is considered the successor to Cristiano Ronaldo at Old Trafford, who had his contract terminated just before the turn of the year. According to Fanatic the Borne-born attacker is aiming for a debut during the Manchester derby, which is scheduled for next Saturday. Weghorst is still under contract with Burnley until mid-2025. He played twenty Premier League games last season on behalf of the Claretsin which he scored twice and recorded three assists.
