Roda JC Kerkrade lost his home in the Kitchen Champion Division on Saturday evening. The Limburgers were the dominant match against Helmond Sport for a long time, but failed to finish the chances. Because the visitors did that once via Martijn Kaars, the points went to Noord-Brabant: 0-1. Roda is ninth due to the defeat, putting it one point below fellow provincial VVV-Venlo. Despite the defeat, Helmond remains in nineteenth place, although the lead over last placed Jong FC Utrecht has been extended to nine points.
The first chance came in the name of Arjen van der Heide. Roda’s midfielder shot the ball wide after a nice combination with Dylan Vente and Lennard Hartjes. Moments later, a corner from Anthony Limbombe landed at the feet of Ted van de Pavert, who didn’t seem to take it into account. The leather therefore passed. Roda dominated and tried to force the opening goal this time through Niek Vossebelt, whose shot went wide. The first half then became harder, which led to yellow cards for Van de Pavert, Michael Chacon and Tom Beugelsdijk. Opportunities were no longer created in the first company.
After the break, the Limburgers remained the dominant party. Vente was close to the opening goal, but he found Mike Havekotte in his path. The goalkeeper also prevented the rebound from being tapped in. Moments later, it was against all odds for Helmond. Håkon Lorentzen headed back to fellow striker Kaars, who shot the ball past Moritz Nicolas. Fifteen minutes before the end, substitute Romano Postema was close to the equalizer. However, the striker saw his attempt being tapped out of the corner by Havekotte: 0-1. Substitute Florian Mayer tried with a header, which went over the goal via a bounce. A shot on the far side of Candle went over. Roda tried in the final phase, among other things, via a distance attempt by Vossebelt, which also failed to score.
