RKC Waalwijk took the first points of the season in the Eredivisie on Saturday evening. Coach Fred Grim’s team was 0-1 too strong for Heracles Almelo. RKC, which only played four times this season, thus registered its first victory after three defeats, rising from last to fifteenth place. Heracles has already taken action five times and is stuck on four points.

Heracles was on top from the start, although Frank Wormuth’s team was not very dangerous. After thirteen minutes of play, the first opportunity presented itself: Robin Pröpper headed the ball from a corner just over the goal. However, it was RKC that took the lead ten minutes later. Saïd Bakari took a pass from Cyril Ngonge on his shoe in one go and shot the ball from the tip of the penalty area past Michel Brouwer: 0-1. A few minutes later, a bet by Ngonge ended in the side net.

Wormuth’s team had to blame themselves for entering the break with a delay. Ten minutes before the break, Melle Meulesteen tried to kick the ball away, but it hit Sylvester van der Water’s leg. Rai Vloet’s hard eleven-meter kick was well turned by Kostas Lamprou, who continued a separate series. After all, the last three penalties in the Eredivisie did not yield the opponent a hit and, surprisingly, all three times against Heracles.

After the break Heracles was better in the game. The Almeloans became more threatening and there were opportunities for Van der Water and Mats Knoester, but an equalizer was not forthcoming. Ola John made his comeback in the Eredivisie after 71 minutes of play. The attacker came on for Vitalie Damascan. Heracles was also the most dangerous with John within the lines, but Wormuth’s team was not happy. Delano Burgzorg was the closest to a goal when he saw his attempt hit the crossbar.
