Ritsu Doan faces a return to the Bundesliga, it reports Eindhovens Dagblad† PSV is in advanced negotiations with SC Freiburg, which was impressed when the 24-year-old Japanese played for Arminia Bielefeld on a rental basis last year. Doan is expected to earn PSV an amount of approximately 8.5 million euros, including bonuses.

PSV in any case seems to succeed in not suffering a loss on Doan, which it had to fear a year ago. The people of Eindhoven paid 7.5 million euros to FC Groningen in 2019 for the right wing striker, who had difficulty playing in the basic team at PSV. The top club took the decision in the summer of 2020 to send Doan to Arminia Bielefeld on a rental basis. In Germany, the Asian attacker revived and (despite the relegation) had a good season on a personal level.

Last season, Doan rejoined the PSV first team. After a difficult start to the football year, Roger Schmidt increasingly called on Doan during the season, who also benefited from frequent injuries from his competitor Noni Madueke. Doan scored 11 goals and provided 3 assists in 39 official games. In total he has 13 goals and 6 assists in 64 matches for the Eindhoven team.

Doan hopes to fulfill his dream of playing in the Champions League at SC Freiburg. That will not work next season, because the South German club just came up short in May for a coveted ticket in the billion-dollar ball. Freiburg, where the Dutch goalkeeper Mark Flek is also under contract, has to make do with a place in the group stage of the Europa League after the sixth final ranking.
