Erling Braut Haaland and English television still have to get used to each other. While the Manchester City striker introduced the British football crowd to his goal-scoring drive against West Ham United (0-2 win), viewers of Sky Sports also a touch of his rich vocabulary. The Norwegian uses the word ‘shit’ twice and is immediately told that this kind of language is not desirable on English TV.

The goal-getter was single-handedly responsible for the total production of his club Manchester City on Sunday afternoon. Despite the 0-2 victory, Haaland is not satisfied. When asked if he should have scored a hat-trick, he agrees: “On the bet of gundo (Ilkay Gündogan, ed.) I should have been in the right place, but yes. A bit shit, but it is what it is.” When the reporter points out the ‘s-word’, Haaland repeats it again to his own amusement: “Oh, sorry! I can’t say, shit,” he laughs.

The fact that Haaland has a good click with his teammates was clearly visible in the field, the striker also thinks. “As I expected, actually. We already saw our potential in preparation, but it is getting better with each game.” Getting used to his teammates, and thus to him, Haaland works hard in training. But he sees sufficient progress: “It’s about the connection you have with each other and we train hard every day for that.”

When asked whether he should take the penalty that Manchester City were awarded, there is no doubt among the striker, as well as whether he was happy celebrating his goals, Haaland remained his stoic self: “Those were some good celebrations“, said the Norwegian, who thought his debut in the English competition was good but is still far from satisfied. His two hits certainly gave him a boost. “But it has now been thirty minutes since I scored, so I have to continue”, so it closes dry.
