If Marc Overmars actually sent unsolicited photos of his genitals to women, then according to criminal lawyer Job Knoester, he is ‘a digital pencil peddler’. René van der Gijp has to go in VI Today laugh out loud at that term, which is customary in criminal law for these kinds of cases.

“Sending a dick pic unsolicited, that is actually digital pencil peddling,” Koester explains in the talk show. “That is punishable and you can get a maximum of two months in prison for that. And it seems that Overmars did not do this on request… Eight years ago someone was sentenced to eighty hours of community service for sending these kinds of photos several times. It doesn’t happen very often, because it’s not the biggest offence.”

Van der Gijp cannot contain his laughter. “Digital pencil guys…”, the former right winger laughs. “I think that’s even worse than sending dick pics, huh?” Knoester responds seriously: “Yes, if Overmars has done this, then it is a digital pencil peddler. That is of course very wrong.” Nothing is known yet about a criminal investigation, but Overmars is in any case under disciplinary investigation, it came out on Wednesday. “That means he can be reprimanded, but in the worst case it can also be expelled. Then he can only apply for a new position in football after twelve years.”

Edwin van der Sar, who is on the board of Ajax that Overmars was also part of, can also get into trouble, Knoester emphasizes. “Van der Sar is not punishable, but may have acted disciplinary and culpable. He must also report it, if he knew about it.” That would probably not mean immediate expulsion for Van der Sar. “I don’t think it will happen soon in Van der Sar’s case, but possibly a disciplinary complaint, I wouldn’t sleep well…” Van der Sar denied again to the court on Wednesday. AP that he knew about it, but Van der Gijp says firmly: “He knew this.”

Van der Gijp is looking for an explanation for Overmars’ sexually transgressive behavior. “The saddest thing is, I don’t think that Overmars even wanted to do anything with those girls. He didn’t touch any of those girls. Not with a finger. It’s just a game. A very crazy game, that’s possible you can’t buy from the Blokker.” Knoester adds: “I think it’s an inferiority complex. That he needs the attention and seeks it in this way. I also read stories in NRC that he was a little lonely, and started keeping those stories with the ladies, and didn’t want to leave there either. That loneliness, that’s something you see in sex crimes.”
