Latest update:

Arda Güler will most likely not play for Real Madrid again this calendar year. The club is working on a physical and mental recovery with the Turk, who is having a difficult time in the Spanish capital so far. Real have acknowledged that there was a certain haste previously for fear of selling the youngster short.

Last summer, the Spanish superpower paid around twenty million euros to acquire Turkey's biggest talent from Fenerbahçe. Güler is still waiting for his official debut at the Santiago Bernabéu due to problems with his physical condition. He is now taking his final steps in the recovery from his second muscle injury of the year.

Earlier this year, Güler returned too early to the match selection Los Blancos. This was followed by a setback that kept him sidelined longer than previously expected.

The Turkish midfielder was already expected in the match selection against Villarreal last weekend, but that match turned out to come too early for Güler. The young talent will also not be present in the match against Alaves next Thursday, as Real no longer wants to take any risks.

Real's medical staff does not want to rush Güler's return this time and has therefore chosen to postpone his return until 2024. Last month, Niko Mihic, the former head of the medical department, was fired due to a blunder with a knee injury from Güler. Real seems to have learned from those mistakes.

Real Madrid opens the new year with a league match against RCD Mallorca on January 3. They then travel to Aranda de Duero, where they will play in the Spanish cup tournament against third divisionist Arandina. This will be followed by the charged city derby against Atlético.

Güler is the first Turkish player at Real Madrid since Nuri Sahin. He also struggled with a lot of injuries during his time in Spain and never really managed to find his way into the starting eleven at the Spanish superpower. However, Güler hopes to emulate the successes of his idol: Mesut Özil.
