Aleksandar Rankovic will return to Sparta Rotterdam after this season. The Eredivisie club announced on Tuesday that he will be added to the technical staff of head coach Henk Fraser. Rankovic succeeds Gérard de Nooijer at Het Kasteel, who will leave at the end of the season.

Last year Rankovic left Sparta for a chance as head coach at ADO Den Haag. In the fight against relegation, the club management quickly decided to say goodbye to him. The club management put Rankovic on the street in November after a 2-4 defeat against FC Twente. At Sparta, he will again work with Fraser, under whom he was also an assistant trainer at Vitesse.

Rankovic was succeeded at Sparta last year by De Nooijer. The current number twelve of the Eredivisie reports that De Nooijer will leave the club. “The assistant coach has recently indicated that he wants to continue his career elsewhere and Sparta respects his choice,” Sparta writes on the club channel. Rankovic will rejoin Fraser’s coaching staff on July 1.
