Willem II meets Rangers FC in the third preliminary round of the Europa League. As could be expected, the Scottish superpower disbanded from Lincoln Red Imps on Thursday: 0-5. Two goals fell before halftime; after the break Rangers walked further out. With fourteen national titles in the last sixteen seasons, Lincoln Red Imps is by far the biggest club on Gibraltar, but clearly fell short against Steven Gerrard’s team.

In the break the visitors led 0-2 by goals from James Tavernier and Connor Goldson: captain Tavernier cleverly curled a free kick into the top corner and Goldson headed out of a free kick on the stroke of rest. In the second act Alfredo Morelos rounded off a smooth attack, Jermain Defoe scored with a shot that changed direction and Morelos determined the final position just before time.

The match between Willem II and Rangers will be finished on Thursday in Tilburg. The winner will have to survive one preliminary round to reach the group stage; both Willem II and Rangers will probably have an unseated status in the draw for the play-off round. On Thursday, October 1, the playoff round is scheduled.

PSV will take on the Slovenian NS Mura or the Danish Aarhus GF in the third preliminary round. Those teams will battle each other in Slovenia on Thursday evening at 20:15. Should PSV continue to convert, it will have a placed status in the last preliminary round.
