Quique Setién issued a statement on Thursday in which he threatens legal action against Barcelona. The coach was sent away by Barcelona last month, but there was no departure arrangement. Setién, together with his technical staff, wants to receive a sum of money from the club. His contract ran for another two years.

Wednesday evening reported Cadena COPE that Barcelona had not yet reached a settlement with Setién. As a result, his successor Ronald Koeman is not yet registered with LaLiga and is not allowed to be in the dugout at official matches, according to reports. One day later Sport that Barcelona has formally terminated Setién’s ongoing contract with the Spanish Football Federation and is now working on the ransom for the training master sent away. This would allow Koeman to take a seat at the first official match of the new season, on 27 September against Villarreal.

In his statement Setién, who, according to reports in Spain, is looking for a premium of four million euros, confirms that chairman Josep Maria Bartomeu has never officially informed him of his resignation. It was not until Wednesday that Setién and his assistants, who co-signed the letter, were made clear that they could leave. According to Setién, however, Barcelona did not say anything about a possible settlement.

“The rest of the coaching staff were told that they can work ‘elsewhere within the club’ in the future,” Setién added. He says he has been ‘forced’ to engage lawyers with his staff and take the legal route. “We are doing this to stand up for our rights and for the agreements made with Barcelona”.
