The KNVB comes to PSV’s aid when the Eindhoven club reaches the play-offs of the Champions League. That’s what the people of Brabant have said. If AS Monaco is defeated on Tuesday evening, PSV will not have to play on Saturday 20 August. That way, the formation of trainer Ruud van Nistelrooij has more time to prepare for the return game in the play-offs.

If PSV manage to deal with Monaco on Tuesday evening, it will be a place in the group stage of the Champions League in the play-offs. In it, it is Rangers of trainer Giovanni van Bronckhorst or Union Saint-Gilloise, who won the first leg 2-0, the opponent. The return match of that diptych would then be played in the week of Monday August 22, so the KNVB has decided to help PSV.

The home match against FC Volendam on Saturday 20 August will be moved if PSV succeeds in making the play-offs. That game will then be played on Wednesday, August 31, between two other Eredivisie games. That is good news for the Brabant club, which previously received zero claims from Zeist. Moving the battle for the Johan Cruijff Scale, in order to get more preparation time for the first leg in and against Monaco, turned out to be impossible.

On Tuesday evening, PSV will try to reach the last preliminary round of the Champions League. Kick-off is at 8.30 pm in the Philips Stadium and then every victory is enough for Van Nistelrooij’s men to continue. In the mini-state there was a 1-1 draw by goals from Joey Veerman and Axel Disasi.
