PSV pulled off a crazy winner against Ajax on Sunday. The team from Amsterdam took the lead twice in the Philips Stadium, but ultimately lost: 5-2. Hirving Lozano was the star on the Eindhoven side with three goals. Due to FC Volendam’s defeat and victory, Ajax becomes the new bottom of the Eredivisie.

With PSV as the undefeated leader and Ajax as number seventeen, the forecasts prior to the match were clear. Yet it was the Amsterdammers who came out the strongest. Brobbey came one-on-one with Walter Benítez after just a minute and a half, but was unable to get the ball past the Argentinian closing post. A little later, Brobbey hoped to add an assist.

Steven Berghuis sent the striker away beautifully on the side, but no one ran into his cross. PSV came close to an answer through Malik Tillman. The American received the ball on a silver platter from ex-Ajax player Sergiño Dest, but could not get his foot behind the ball properly. Branco van den Boomen had better luck two minutes later.

The midfielder, who was preferred to Benjamin Tahirovic, decided to try on spec after a deflected pass from Berghuis. Benítez was not prepared for that and saw the ball sail in via the post: 0-1. There seemed to be no problem for Ajax, which saw PSV looking for an opening. It came out of nowhere.

Lozano was barely offered any resistance when he received a through ball from Olivier Boscagli. Anton Gaaei was gone, Josip Sutalo did not intervene, and the Mexican winger defeated Diant Ramaj with a dry shot in the short corner: 1-1. Ajax was able to take the lead again almost immediately, but Benítez made an excellent save from a bet by Kristian Hlynsson.

After the game was temporarily stopped due to a supporter who became unwell, Brobbey still provided the victory. With a kick from Ramaj, he won a duel against Ramalho, and then headed for the penalty area. There, Steven Bergwijn delivered the ball on a silver platter and Brobbey rounded it off via Benítez: 1-2.

1-2 was also the halftime score, but PSV was not confused by that. Three minutes after tea the score was level. Luuk de Jong, who had barely featured in the play, was in the right place for a rebound from a Lozano shot. The PSV captain scored his eighth of the season, making history: no one has ever scored in six consecutive matches against Ajax.

Ajax collapsed completely and, to make matters worse, also suffered the third. Ismael Saibari was completely overlooked by a through ball from De Jong and could only approach Ramaj. With a bit of luck the midfielder scored: 3-2. Lozano then completed the Eindhoven party. He first tapped in a cross from Johan Bakayoko, before putting the final score on the scoreboard with a sliding slide.
