PSV recovered via social media on Wednesday evening after the double victory over Galatasaray in the second qualifying round of the Champions League. The Eindhoven team won 1-2 in Istanbul, after an earlier 5-1 win in the Philips Stadium. “Small club? Big result,” PSV wrote on Twitter with a wink.

With the tweet, PSV is responding to messages that Galatasaray supporters posted on social media for the diptych. From Turkey, but also from other countries, Galatasaray fans responded to messages from PSV: the supporters noted that PSV is a small club and a small football stronghold. Those reactions in turn led to counter-reactions from PSV supporters.

At the press conference prior to last week’s first game, Galatasaray’s trainer Fatih Terim was even asked about the difference of opinion. “PSV is a very big club with a great history”, he made clear. “Just look at the pictures hanging here in the stadium.” On Wednesday evening, PSV’s tweet received a massive response; within ten minutes the tweet had already been liked four thousand times.
