On April 4, a maximum of three hundred PSV supporters are welcome in the semi-final of the TOTO KNVB Cup at Sportpark De Westmaat during the game against SV Spakenburg. The municipality of Bunschoten gave the green light for this on Tuesday afternoon. The supporters from Eindhoven must take a mandatory bus combination. “We will make a joint effort to make it a wonderful, historic football evening,” said Mayor Albertine van Vliet.

Last week it was announced that Spakenburg may play the game at its own sports park. At first the question was whether that was possible for safety reasons. The second divisionist has experience with thousands of spectators received at the sports park. For example, the derby against IJsselmeervogels in the Jack’s League is played annually for an average of seven thousand spectators. “We also have experience in managing competitions with a large audience, just think of the Spakenburg derby”, chairman Marc Schoonebeek already indicated.

A VAR will also be present in the semi-finals of the KNVB Cup. The Spakenburg complex will be filled with sixteen to 24 cameras to provide the video referee with the best possible image. By placing extra stands, De Westmaat will be expanded so that eight thousand supporters can enter. “This is going to be historic,” says Schoonebeek.

Spakenburg caused a sensational stunt in the cup by winning 1-4 on a visit to FC Utrecht. The amateurs, led by the only 35-year-old Chris de Graaf, were lord and master in the Dom city all evening. It is only the third time in Dutch football history that an amateur club has reached the semi-finals of the cup. Only IJsselmeervogels (1975) and VVSB (2016) preceded Spakenburg.
