Philipp Max will definitely not return to PSV. The wing defender was rented out to Eintracht Frankfurt last winter, which stipulated an option to buy. It Eindhovens Dagblad reports following Image that there was one condition to a definitive transfer. To activate the purchase option, Max had to play in six official matches for Frankfurt and that has now happened.

PSV will have two million euros left over from the deal. Max made the switch to his home country last winter and was in the starting line-up in all games that Frankfurt played after his arrival. The attacking back has not yet scored a goal or assist. Max was a big earner at PSV and so the people of Eindhoven are happy to be able to scrap his salary. General manager Marcel Brands already indicated at the beginning of February that he wanted to do something about the high salary house. “If we continued like this, we would be too dependent on the Champions League or that one big sale. And even that big sale wouldn’t even be big enough anymore,” he said. The Telegraph from the mouth of Brands.

PSV switched very quickly and brought in Patrick van Aanholt, who came over from Galatasaray on a rental basis. Normally Mauro Júnior would also be a serious candidate for the left back position. However, the Brazilian missed a large part of the first half of the season due to an injury, was suspended for a number of games and sustained an apparently serious knee injury on Friday.

Max came over from FC Augsburg in 2020, where he made a name for himself as an upcoming back. There he came to 156 games, in which he scored fifteen goals and 29 assists. Max wore the PSV shirt 117 times. For the team from Eindhoven, he scored eight goals and twenty assists. The German was an important force for PSV, especially in his early days, but also had lesser periods and was therefore not always undisputed in the Philips Stadium.
