PSV has a 1-1 draw on Tuesday evening from his visit to AS Monaco. Ruud van Nistelrooij’s team had a good start in the first game in the third preliminary round of the Champions League and took the lead through Joey Veerman. As the end of the game drew closer, Monaco got stronger and stronger. Ten minutes before the end, Axel Disasi equalized from a free kick. PSV got away well in the absolute final phase with a ball on the post from Youssouf Fofana. The return is in the Philips Stadium in a week.

In the first half, PSV had little to fear from Monaco, without creating too much itself. The home team didn’t get a real chance in the first 45 minutes, although the Eindhoven team were almost surprised twice by cleverly taken rehearsed free kicks. PSV got away with it and became more dangerous itself through Veerman. The midfielder first poked in a free position of fifteen meters with the right next to it, but went a lot more economical with his second opportunity just before half-time.

Luuk de Jong turned on himself as a target and prepared for Veerman, who shot full into the bottom corner from the tip of the penalty area: 0-1. The goal prompted Monaco to open the attack more emphatically after the break. Takumi Minamino just ran away from Philipp Max in the depths, controlled a long ball from behind, but shot eye to eye with Walter Benítez wide. On the other side, after a cross, there was suddenly a mega opportunity for Guus Til, who missed the open goal.

From that moment on, Monaco kept increasing the pressure. Jordan Teze and Armando Obispo, for example, escaped unscathed when Kevin Volland blew a free header between them. Van Nistelrooij intervened by taking the very disappointing playing Til and the injured Max to the side. With Érick Gutiérrez and André Ramalho in the squad, PSV regained some of its grip. Saibari had a huge opportunity after 73 minutes. The occasional right winger was played by Gakpo in the sixteen, cut out his opponent and poked his left just wide.

PSV had to go on without the injured Sangaré twelve minutes before the end and saw Monaco come closer and closer to the goal. In the eightieth minute there was no stopping with a sharply turned free kick. Fofana extended the ball with some luck to Axel Disasi, who shot in from close range: 1-1. Monaco smelled blood and chased the winner. Another free kick led to a predicament in front of PSV’s goal, with Fofana hitting the post from the rebound.
