Aad de Mos and Ronald de Boer expect Ajax to be able to extend the national title in the Eredivisie. The team from Amsterdam was one point ahead of PSV last season. At the Mos there are mainly doubts about the strength of the selection of the Eindhoven residents.
“Ajax becomes champion”, De Mos says with conviction to The Telegraph. “They can handle the pressure best there. PSV must complete the same number of duels as Ajax. I have yet to see that they can consistently perform at a level there and I have my doubts about the selection. Is it as good as everyone thinks?”
Both Cody Gakpo and Antony are in the spotlight of European top clubs. De Mos does not rule out the possibility that they will leave the title candidates in the last weeks of the summer transfer window. “In Gakpo’s case, that may not be until after qualifying for the Champions League group stage. A departure of Gakpo does not even have to be a disaster for PSV. I think they are able to pull Memphis Depay out of the top hat as a replacement there,” said De Mos.
De Boer also sees Ajax become champions, although he is of the opinion that PSV has come closer. The former professional football player is especially fond of Joey Veerman. “How he plays, with delaying passes and then all at once that splitting pass… I expect we’ll see a lot of great things from him. That he will really leave his mark on PSV, such as against Monaco with Sangaré.”
