PSV knows the opponents in the group stage of the Europa League. AS Monaco, Real Sociedad and Sturm Graz emerged from the draw as opponents for the Eindhoven club. The link with Monaco is particularly spicy because of the Ligue 1 club’s alleged interest in Mohamed Ihattaren. PSV was moved from pot 3 to pot 2 at the last minute on Thursday evening. The team of coach Roger Schmidt entered the Europa League after failing to reach the group stage of the Champions League in the play-offs.

It seems to be a pretty tough draw for PSV. Monaco took third place in Ligue 1 last season and narrowly missed out on Champions League football. Real Sociedad finished fifth in LaLiga. Sturm Graz finished the 2020/21 season with third place in the Austrian league. After five rounds in the new season, PSV’s European opponent is in second place.
