Wolverhampton Wanderers retroactively claimed the championship in the Premier League in the 2018/19 season on Tuesday morning. In that season, the club finished seventh behind the six clubs that planned to start a European Super League on Sunday: Manchester City, Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal, Liverpool and Tottenham Hotspur.

“It’s probably too late for a parade,” writes Wolves to the post on Twitter with an image of the modified bio. Wolverhampton finished seventh in the 2018/19 season after the team signed up as a PhD candidate in the Premier League. The return to the highest level resulted in the seventh place in the Europa League for the first time since 1980/81.

The ‘champion tweet’ is frequently retweeted and liked. Southampton also congratulates. “On behalf of the 2014/15 champion, we would like to congratulate you,” said Southampton through the official channel. Southampton finished seventh behind the above six clubs in the 2014/15 season. A year later Southampton took sixth place in the Premier League, another club record improvement.
