Pier Eringa has decided to step down as a member and chairman of the Supervisory Board (SB) of Ajax, the Amsterdam club announced in an official press release on Wednesday. Eringa, who was appointed on March 14, will officially resign from his position on October 2. The driver recently said he was not thinking about resigning, but will leave the Johan Cruijff ArenA in the short term.

“I think you should be there as a supervisor especially when things are not going well. But I am not deaf to the criticism and not blind to the situation Ajax is in now. For that reason I have decided to make room for a new chairman. I have worked hard for the club. I will continue to follow Ajax as a fan and hope that the sporting performance will soon return to the level desired by Ajax,” Eringa said in an initial reaction to his departure. Ajax will now look for a suitable replacement for the outgoing supervisory board chairman.

Furious fans
Ajax supporters massively called for the departure of the Supervisory Board during the disastrous Classic against Feyenoord (0-3 behind due to a strike) on Sunday. Eringa refused to comply. “In the chaotic phase we are in, it is important that there is administrative calm and continuity. What do you solve by dismissing the Supervisory Board? We are convinced that we can be important. For us it is now hard work to get through this difficult period. to get through and guarantee sporting performance on the field,” he said in conversation with on Monday The Financial Times.

According to club watcher Mike Verweij The Telegraph Eringa had little choice: “The Supervisory Board chairman shows just as flawlessly what a rudderless ship #Ajax is. Moreover, the board of directors gave him the choice: leave himself or be sent away.” After technical director Sven Mislintat, Eringa is the second big name to leave Ajax in the meantime. The F-Side had already announced actions surrounding the remainder of De Klassieker to get rid of the former top executive of the NS, among others. Georgette Schlick, Annette Mosman, Maurits Hendriks and Jan van Halst should be the next victims.
