Peter Bosz says he is ‘not busy at all’ with the national coach. The current trainer of Olympique Lyon tells in an interview with Football International that he has already been asked twice to take over the helm of the Dutch national team. The last time, before Frank de Boer was appointed as national coach, the only question was whether Bosz was available.

“The first time I was polled, I was just at Dortmund. The second time was for the appointment of Frank de Boer. Then I sat with Leverkusen and was only asked if I was available. They should have asked: ‘Do you want to be a national coach?’ Then I could have asked them to contact Leverkusen and maybe they would have worked it out”, says Bosz. He has a contract with Olympique Lyon until mid-2023, while the KNVB will normally look for a successor for Louis van Gaal in December 2022.

Bosz says that he is not involved in that at all. “I’m having a good time. This is a big club with a great following, good players and a good staff. So I don’t think it’s appropriate to comment on that now. That is not appropriate. But regardless of the current situation: every Dutch trainer is proud when he is asked to become national coach. The situation should also turn out the same way. Or they should talk to you about it in time,” says the former coach of Vitesse, Ajax and Borussia Dortmund, among others.

After a difficult start, Bosz has now got things on track at Olympique Lyon. He confesses to having wondered if he would get his playing style ingrained. “At Borussia Dortmund, I’ve seen players rebel because they thought they looked bad in my playing style. I have not seen that here,” said Bosz. The arrival of Jérôme Boateng, Emerson and Xherdan Shaqiri was important in this. “They have played for Bayern Munich, Chelsea and Liverpool. They are used to pressing high. That helped a lot to make it clear to the group what it’s like to play this way.”
