Roger Schmidt is on his way to Benfica, leaving Wednesday evening in The Grandstand there is talk about players from PSV that the German coach may take to Portugal. Kenneth Perez is clear in his opinion about Cody Gakpo: according to the analyst, the attacker should certainly not choose Benfica, but wait for a club from one of the five major leagues in Europe.

“You kind of set a marker for Gakpo: Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal, sub-top,” explains ESPNpresenter Jan Joost van Gangelen to Perez. “Seville and Valencia”, the former player adds to that list. Journalist Sjoerd Mossou does not like a possible switch from Gakpo to Benfica: “That is difficult man, in Portugal, as an attacker. It seems to me a huge switch too.” Perez sees a line with Mossou as far as the PSV attacker is concerned.

Kenneth Perez thinks Cody Gakpo should not choose Benfica.

“Gakpo is far too good for that. The Portuguese league is about the same as here,” said the analyst of the pay channel. “No, he has to go to one of the top five leagues.” Arnold Bruggink joins in by taking Donyell Malen as an example. The former PSV player is going through a mixed first year at Borussia Dortmund. “Do you not feel Gakpo better than Malen was when he left?”, Van Gangelen asks in that context directly to Bruggink. “Malen was always said to be relatively lazy, and Gakpo certainly doesn’t have that. He wants to work and really adapt to the team. Malen was of course a little lazier in the sense that he waited a little more for his moments,” he said. Bruggink.

Mossou has yet to see whether Gakpo will actually leave PSV. “But do you completely assume that he will leave then?”, the journalist explains to his table companions. “I do, because at some point there will be clubs. He has displayed himself fantastically in the last few weeks. In the cup final he scored a goal and now also against Feyenoord. Those are the matches you are judged on,” said Perez .
