Paris Saint-Germain will not be part of the Super League for the time being. Nasser Al-Khelaïfi speaks for the first time about the new European competition and says that les Parisiens will continue to work with UEFA, ECA and ‘the other stakeholders in the football family’. The PSG chairman was re-elected to the UEFA executive committee on Tuesday. Bayern Munich also rejects the Super League in an official statement.

“PSG believes that football is a sport for everyone. I have thought the same about this plan from the first moment. We must not forget that as a football club we are a family and community, something that thrives on supporters, ”said Al-Khelaïfi in a statement on the UEFA website. The European Football Association also announced at the same time that all 55 member states voted unanimously against the Super League during the congress that is being held these days in Montreux, Switzerland.

“The UEFA competitions need to be developed and that step was taken on Monday, with the proposal for a new format for the Champions League,” said Al-Khelaïfi. “We think that any proposals without the support of UEFA will not solve the problems in football. This plan only serves self-interest. PSG will therefore continue to work with UEFA. ”

Der Spiegel released a document on Tuesday, showing that the Super League has invited PSG, Bayern and Borussia Dortmund to join the twelve founding clubs to add. However, that invitation will not be answered. In addition to PSG, Bayern also announced in a statement on Tuesday afternoon that it would not participate in a Super League.

“Our fans and members reject a Super League,” said President Herbert Hainer on Bayern’s website. Managing Director Karl-Heinz Rummenigge added: “On behalf of the board, I can say that Bayern will not participate in a Super League. We show our solidarity with the Bundesliga. It was and always has been a great pleasure to play in the Champions League as a representative of Germany. For Bayern, the Champions League is the best club competition in the world. “Borussia Dortmund, RB Leipzig, FC Porto and Benfica have also previously spoken out against the plans for a Super League.
