Cristiano Ronaldo has received another rejection. BILD and CBS Sports writing that the Portuguese superstar has set his sights on a departure to Borussia Dortmund and has offered himself through agent Jorge Mendes. Dortmund, however, feels nothing for his arrival. The rumors surrounding Ronaldo have been buzzing for days. At Manchester United they wouldn’t see it in him anymore. He has also expressed his wish to play in the Champions League.

Several English media outlets are claiming that Ronaldo should be allowed to leave Old Trafford as early as this month, but only if he can find a club willing to buy him. That does not appear to be the case at the moment. According to The Telegraph United has not yet received ‘a single offer’ for his star striker. United are nevertheless increasingly concerned that Ronaldo wants to force a break and is looking to tear up the final year of his contract so that he can look for a new club on a free transfer.

Meanwhile, agent Jorge Mendes is pushing for his client to leave. Joel Glazer seems to be the most vociferous roadblock to an exit, however, as he would ideally like to keep Ronaldo. The immensely wealthy owner has repeatedly indicated that he owns a commercial gold mine with the Portuguese. Glazer emphasized this during internal consultations. Erik ten Hag would rather see Ronaldo leave with an acceptable offer. It is not known what amount United are thinking of. Ronaldo has a contract until next summer.

Talent development
According to BILD Ronaldo would be so desperate that he offered himself to Dortmund through agent Jorge Mendes. Unlike Manchester United, the Germans do play in the Champions League and saw their number one striker disappear with Sébastien Haller. Ronaldo, however, earns an annual salary of 29 million euros at United, amounts that do not fit into Dortmund’s financial household. In addition, the club does not want to let the development of Youssoufa Moukoko stagnate. Attracting Anthony Modeste to replace Haller was already a concession to the top talent in that respect.

German media therefore claim that Ronaldo is too old for Dortmund at 37 years old, making a transfer completely out of the question. Mendes therefore seems unable to sell his client to a Champions League participant. Paris Saint-Germain, Atlético Madrid and Bayern Munich have already announced at an earlier stage that they do not want the Portuguese. The coming weeks will show whether there will still be a transfer or whether Ronaldo can be admired in the Europa League next season.
