Ronald Koeman may remain in place as a coach of Barcelona for the time being, report this Sport and Mundo Deportivo. According to the sports newspaper, the club management has decided to keep the Dutch coach, at least until Saturday evening’s game against Atlético Madrid. Due to a suspension, Koeman will not sit on the bench that game.

According to Spanish media, chairman Joan Laporta is delaying a final decision on Koeman’s future. After the 3-0 defeat against Benfica, he and the club management met late into the night about the future of the club and trainer. It has now been decided that Koeman may remain in place for the time being and it is reported that Laporta will take the time during the international match to make a final decision. A resignation of Koeman is therefore temporarily off the table, but not definitively.

After the defeat to Benfica, Koeman seemed to fear for his job. “Everyone knows the problems of Barcelona. You can’t talk about Barcelona anymore as you can about the team of yesteryear. I feel supported by the players. By the club? I don’t know, I don’t know,” he said. RTL7. “And if the people within the club don’t recognize the situation, then it looks bad for me, yes,” the Dutchman agreed. By ‘the situation’ he was referring to the narrow selection and the many injuries of the club.

Mundo Deportivo and RAC1 write that the club management now does not want to make quick decisions and Koeman is respected. He is seen as an important figure of the club and therefore trust is kept in him for now. Club officials would like to see if the return of players like Ansu Fati and Pedri will see any progress in Barcelona’s game against Atletico Madrid.
