Christopher Nkunku has taken to social media to comment on his absence from the World Cup in Qatar. The 25-year-old attacker had to leave the French selection this week after he injured his knee in training. Nkunku suffered the injury after a collision with Eduardo Camavinga, which saw the Real Madrid midfielder take a beating on social media. For example, racist remarks passed in review. The RB Leipzig striker is now standing up for his teammate.

“Last night, after medical examination, it turned out that I les Bleus I have to leave, so I can’t participate in the World Cup,” Nkunku begins his post on social media. “Now is the time to work towards only one goal: to come back even stronger. I think of my teammate Eduardo Camavinga, who is wrongly accused. The World Cup should be a moment of connection, not division. Thank you to all the staff and my teammates for their support. I will be your biggest supporter. Make us proud!”

National coach Didier Deschamps has now called up Randal Kolo Muani as a replacement for Nkunku. The attacker of Eintracht Frankfurt has scored five goals in the Bundesliga so far this season. Karim Benzema, Kingsley Coman, Ousmane Dembélé, Olivier Giroud, Antoine Griezmann, Kylian Mbappé and Marcus Thuram are the other attackers in France’s selection.

On Wednesday, the French selection traveled to Qatar, where it landed in the evening. The tournament starts before les Bleus next Tuesday at 8pm with a game against Australia. Four days later, Denmark is the opponent, after which the group stage will be closed against Tunisia on November 30.
