Napoli has taken second place in Serie A for the time being. The team of trainer Gennaro Gattuso was 1-4 too strong for Spezia on Saturday afternoon and therefore rises from fifth place to the place behind brand new national champion Internazionale. Atalanta, Juventus and AC Milan have one game less and one point less than Napoli: 69 at 70. On Sunday, the important top match between Juventus and AC Milan is on the program.
Napoli laid the foundation for an easy victory over Spezia in the first half, where Jeroen Zoet sat on the bench. Members in January i Partenopei another surprising 1-2 home defeat against Spezia, but a new stunt was not possible. After fifteen minutes of play, Piotr Zielinski put the 0-1 on the scoreboard on a pass from Giovanni Di Lorenzo. While countering, the advantageous margin was doubled in minute 23: after preparatory work by Zielinski, Victor Osimhen was accurate for the fourth consecutive game.
Osimhen struck a second time just before half time. After a free kick by Lorenzo Insigne, the quick attacker escaped the offside trap and scored with a volley for the 0-3. After just over an hour of play, Spezia did something back with a goal from Roberto Piccoli, who used a rebound after a half-save by goalkeeper Alex Meret on a header from Nahuel Estévez. Ten minutes before the end Hirving Lozano, who had come in for Matteo Politano a few minutes earlier, determined the final score on a pass from Osimhen: 1-4.
Napoli will play two more home games, against Udinese and Hellas Verona, and in between travels to Florence to meet with Fiorentina. Atalanta can pass Gattuso’s team in the rankings on Sunday if the game with low-flyer Parma is won. Both Napoli and Atalanta will keep an eye on the developments in the top match between Juventus and AC Milan.
