Napoli booked a hard-fought victory in the Serie A on Sunday evening. In the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, the Neapolitans struggled against Torino for a long time against the 0-0 score, but in the final phase Victor Osimhen provided the only goal of the game: 1-0. Thanks to the minimal victory, the team of coach Luciano Spalletti regains the lead in Italy at the expense of AC Milan, which has two points less than Napoli.
The game got off to a slow start and it wasn’t until the 27th minute that the first serious threat of the game was created. After a free kick by Lorenzo Insigne, Giovanni Di Lorenzo was pushed to the ground in the box by Ben Lhassine Kone. After reviewing the video, referee Juan Luca awarded Sacchi a penalty kick that was taken by Insigne. However, the attacker failed to outwit goalkeeper Vanja Milinkovic-Savic from eleven meters. Insigne has missed no less than three out of five penalties in the current football season.
A few minutes before half-time, Kalidou Koulibaly also lacked fortune in the finish. The centre-back got plenty of room to shoot in after a return ball from André Zambo Anguissa, but he ran into Milinkovic-Savic’s legs. Torino, apart from a ruined chance by Antonio Sanabria, barely appeared in the scene. Ten minutes after the break, Napoli seemed to get the deserved lead.
A free kick by Mario Rui was nodded in by Di Lorenzo. However, after viewing the video images, the right back turned out to be offside, as a result of which the goal was rejected. Hirving Lozano also showed himself halfway through the second half. The former PSV player outsmarted Milinkovic-Savic after a lightning-fast counter, but he saw how the bet bounced off the post. The ban was only broken in the 81st minute. After a deflected pass by Dries Mertens, Oshimen got the ball in front of his feet via Eljif Elmas, and he took care of the 1-0 with a firm header.
