Kenneth Perez thinks Cyriel Dessers is ‘a lovely boy’, but not a ‘global player’. During the game between Feyenoord and RKC Waalwijk (2-2) on Saturday, the striker missed a few good opportunities to take the winning goal. Despite the disappointing draw, Perez sees an upward trend at Feyenoord, the analyst says in the program This was the Weekend by ESPN.

“I think Dessers is a wonderful boy,” Perez begins. Fellow analyst Marciano Vink emphasizes that this must be a stand-in. Dessers had a base place at Feyenoord on Saturday because Luis Sinisterra had not yet returned from international obligations with Colombia. “Of course, that’s how it’s usually used,” Perez responds. “The problem is that he has come in well the last few times. Dessers is not a global player, he is just a nice guy.”

“He’s a guy who puts quite a bit of energy into it. He said he was a better player than when he left the Netherlands. Well, he has played for a big club in Belgium (KRC Genk, ed.), or at least was under contract. He hasn’t played for a while, so he has to go again… Just like Alireza Jahanbakhsh, it also goes through trial and error,” Perez continues. “The line is rising. This draw against RKC is one moment. It’s talked about very positively and it’s fun to watch, but you don’t go from zero to a hundred. Nobody does that.”

“At Feyenoord it stands or falls with energy. How much energy or content do they have? You see that when they pass a pass, they think: phew, do we have to go after it again?”, says Perez. He receives support from Vink. “They have given so much energy with so few people. We’ve been really entertained in the games they’ve played so far because there was so much energy in them. In the second half of the Conference League match against Slavia Prague (2-1 win, ed.), they couldn’t take it anymore. The scientists with the measuring boxes will now be able to see how tired the team is.”
