Patrice Evra has been a victim of sexual abuse at a young age, the former professional footballer has revealed in his new biography I Love This Game. The Frenchman was abused by his teacher when he was thirteen, but never made a report. His mother, who only learned the shocking news from her son two weeks ago, has now insisted on filing a lawsuit.

Evra’s biography is currently being published in England by Simon & Schuster. In the book, Evra says, among other things, that when the police went to him years ago to ask about the teacher, the teacher already had several charges against former students. At the time, Evra preferred not to report anything and to focus on his career. “It was a teacher who offered me to stay overnight at his home instead of commuting between school and home in France every day,” Evra, now 40, told IPS. The Times.

Evra had a glorious career and was under contract with Manchester United, Juventus, AS Monaco and Olympique Marseille. In 2019 he decided to end his career and now, two years later, he is publishing his biography. The abuse is described in detail in it. He only told his mother two weeks ago. “Of course she was devastated,” Evra said. “It was a difficult moment for me and my mother. I also have to tell some of my siblings and close friends.”

Evra emphasizes that it is not his intention that people feel sorry for him when they hear or read the story. “It’s a difficult situation,” the 81-time French international continues. “A mother doesn’t expect to hear this from her own child. It was a great shock to her and I saw a lot of anger and disbelief in her eyes. She said she was sorry she never knew. She said, ‘You must don’t put it in your book, it’s private Patrice’, but then I said, ‘Mommy, it’s not about me, this book is also for other children who have a difficult childhood’. Then she understood.”
