Paris Saint-Germain booked a narrow victory in Ligue 1 on Saturday evening. The team of coach Christophe Galtier won 2-1 against Toulouse thanks to goals from Achraf Hakimi and Lionel Messi. Branco van den Boomen gave the visitors the lead before the break from a direct free kick. The victory brings leader PSG to 54 points, Toulouse remains twelfth.
Galtier was unable to call on many important forces. Neymar was not yet fit, while the coach also had to do without Sergio Ramos and Kylian Mbappé. The two were injured during the victory over Montpellier (1-3). Marco Verratti also served a suspension. At Toulouse, Van den Boomen, Stijn Spierings and Zakaria Aboukhlal could count on a basic place, club top scorer Thijs Dallinga started on the bench.

PSG saw the infirmary continue to fill up after fifteen minutes, when Renato Sanches was injured. The midfielder was replaced by seventeen-year-old El Chadaille Bitshiabu. The home team hardly managed to come up with a serious opportunity in the opening phase. Fabián Ruiz handed out a pinprick with a long shot that went just over, after which Van den Boomen managed to break the spell on behalf of the visitors out of the blue. The Dutchman outwitted PSG goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma with a direct free kick: 0-1.
Messi then had to take the Parisians by the hand and almost did this by suddenly shooting in a turning corner kick. Maxime Dupé was just able to touch the corner kick of the Argentinian star player, after which the ball hit the post. PSG escaped with a fright a few minutes later, after Anthony Rouault thought he had doubled the margin. The defender was accurate with the head, but saw a line through his goal due to offside. Hakimi brought the leader of the Ligue 1 back into the game before the break by beautifully finding the long corner from the edge of the box with his lesser left leg: 1-1.

In the second act, it was Messi who took PSG by the hand. The attacker got the ball at his feet on the edge of the penalty area and then found the bottom left corner: 2-1. The backlog turned out to be a big blow for Toulouse, which actually didn’t get any further than a long shot from Fares Chaibi. The insertion of Dallinga was also ultimately unsuccessful. Messi was still close to his second goal in the closing seconds, but hit the post again.
Messi is the man again! ??
