Atlético Madrid managed to qualify for the eighth finals of the Copa del Rey on Saturday thanks to Memphis Depay. When visiting Lugo – a club that is active in the third level – the Dutch international made the difference with two goals after the break: 1-3.

Trainer Diego Simeone decided not to field Atlético in the strongest line-up. For example, players such as Rodrigo De Paul, Antoine Griezmann and Álvaro Morata started on the bench. There was a starting place for Memphis: he formed the vanguard together with Ángel Correa.

Atlético got off to a dream start, as they took a 0-1 lead within two minutes. Javier Galán passed the ball hard, and Correa was ready to tap in at the far post.

However, the Madrilenians were unable to further distance themselves from Lugo, and just before half-time the score suddenly became equal. Antonetti was sent deep, cleverly outplayed his opponents and scored in the short corner: 1-1.

Simeone decided to intervene at halftime. Rodrigo de Paul, Koke and Antoine Griezmann came into the team, while Rodrigo Riquelme, Correa and Çaglar Söyüncü remained in the dressing room.

Memphis was therefore allowed to remain standing. Halfway through the second half he gave Atlético the lead again after a clever move. The striker sent his direct opponent into the woods with a feint shot and then scored: 1-2.

More than fifteen minutes before the end, Memphis ended the game prematurely. This time the Dutchman received the ball from Marcos Llorente, after which he scored convincingly in the long corner: 1-3.
