Wanda Nara and Mauro Icardi are getting divorced. The former revealed on an Instagram Story on Thursday that a nearly nine-year marriage between the two has come to an end. “It’s very painful right now, but given my fame and the media speculation to come, it’s better to hear from me,” Nara wrote. “I have nothing to explain and I don’t want to give any details about this divorce. Please understand that it is not only for me, but also for our children.”

The marriage between Nara and Icardi is one of the most famous in the football world. Before dating the current Galatasaray striker, Nara was married to Maxi López, and he and Icardi were teammates at Sampdoria for several years. Shortly after Icardi made the switch to Internazionale, however, it leaked that the eight-time Argentine international was in a relationship with Nara. Shortly afterwards she filed for divorce from López. The love triangle caused a lot of stir in the Argentine and Italian tabloids; even the late Diego Maradona had his opinion about it.

In May 2014, Nara married Icardi again. Shortly before that, her old husband had to visit her new one in Serie A. López refused to shake Icardi’s hand before the 4-0 defeat, leading the game to be dubbed ‘the Wanda derby’ by the press. Two years later, history repeated itself when López – now on behalf of Torino – again refused to shake Icardi’s hand. The breakup of Nara and Icardi could in that regard be met with jeering at the López household. Nara and Icardi had two children together, Francesca (7) and Isabella (5).
