The fact that the summer transfer market in top competitions such as the Premier League, Bundesliga and Serie A is open until September 1, and in the Netherlands until August 31, is a thorn in the side of the clubs in the Eredivisie. PSV general manager Marcel Brands hopes that the issue will be resolved as soon as possible, although the management of the KNVB considers it unlikely that the transfer market in the Netherlands will be open one day longer.

Football International inquired about this with the KNVB and on the second attempt the report was received that an inquiry had been made with the licensing department, but that no definitive answer had yet been given. Contact was also made with various directors of Dutch clubs, who were not aware that the transfer market abroad will be open one day longer. It was only known via the KNVB that the market in the Netherlands will be closed on August 31. One of the directors announced via WhatsApp that a ‘very undesirable situation’ had arisen. Dutch clubs can still sell a player on September 1, but can no longer bring in.

The KNVB has now requested FIFA to extend the transfer deadline in the Netherlands by one day to September 1. “It was already annoying that countries such as Turkey and Russia were open longer than the Netherlands, but you do not want this to also apply to the top competitions. I do find it strange that they are open one day longer. August 31 was always the starting point. hope in any case that the KNVB can restore this”, Brands says in a response to Football International. The football association has already informed the clubs in the Netherlands that it is unlikely that FIFA will grant permission for extending the transfer period.

Football International received a response from the KNVB on Friday to the question whether contact had actually been made with the Dutch clubs about this matter. “It is true that we recently found out that there is a difference in the closing date of the transfer window that we use compared to a number of other associations. We keep the date of August 31 and a number of other associations close a day later, on the night of September 1 to 2. We are surprised about this difference in closing date.” According to the spokesperson for the KNVB, there has also been contact with FIFA. “Because the transfer window is already running, we expect it to be difficult to realize this in the short term.”
